Grandma Hope (Babusya Nadiya) was born in 1931 in Ukraine. Shortly after her birth, the family was dispossessed by the Communists. Their large farm and land were taken away, and the nine-member family was forced to live in an old hut of only seven square meters.
As a young woman, Nadiya was no longer allowed to attend school and had to work hard in a sewing factory. She spent her life sewing and working tirelessly. She had two daughters, Valentyna and Iryna.
In the spring of 2022, she fled to Hesedorf, Germany, to join her granddaughter Inna, and dreamed all the time of returning to her homeland. In the spring of 2023, she returned to Kramatorsk, Ukraine, together with her daughter Iryna. She gave me a handmade apron as a gift.
In the summer of 2024, she passed away in Kramatorsk.

In this project, personal themes such as the loss of homeland, faith and hope, the strength to carry on, resilience, the beauty of old age, family relationships, and well-being have played a significant role for me.
